Filippi enjoyed another spectacular day out on the River Thames for the 2023 editions of the Pairs Head of the River. With gorgeous conditions bestowed upon all competing crews, the Tideway was awash with pairings and duos from up and down the UK alongside a small contingent of international entrants. Filippi enjoyed 13 wins, the most of any boat-builder, to follow up a great session at the Scullers Head a few weeks previously. In the following, we’ll detail crews who won their category in a Filippi.
Thames Rowing Club were victorious in the Open Championship Pairs, topping a table containing ten other boats including crews from St Paul’s School, UL and London Rowing Club. We had a fantastic run in the masters event, taking home wins in the Mixed Masters B/C doubles (Greenbank Falmouth), Mixed Masters F/G/H doubles (Mortlake Anglian and Alpha Boat Club), Open Masters B doubles (Crabtree Boat Club) and Open Masters F doubles (Tideway Scullers School).
On the junior side, our strong partnership with St Paul’s School continues to bear fruit as their top-ranked junior crew won the J18 pairs event and finished as the fastest pair of the day. Reading Rowing Club were winners in the J18 men’s sculling equivalent whilst Reading University Boat Club – who almost exclusively row Filippi – were fifth overall and winners of the open lightweight category.
On the women’s side, we were relatively dominant at masters level, enjoying victories in the Women’s Masters C doubles (Walton Rowing Club), Women’s Masters D doubles (Mortlake Anglian and Alpha Boat Club) alongside Women’s Masters F and G doubles (both wins for Tideway Scullers School). Our final win of the day came in the Women’s J16 doubles, where Tideway Scullers School secured their fourth pennant of the day.
We’re very much looking forward to the next flagship Tideway event (the Fours Head on Sunday 5th November) and will be available to support crews across the UK over the winter months.
