Filippi Focus | Henley Royal Regatta 2023

Filippi walked away with two trophies at the 2023 Henley Royal Regatta after a phenomenal six days of racing. With 26 events on offer, Henley Royal Regatta enjoyed its second-largest entry with the most women ever competing. Filippi were on-site throughout and supported a range of athletes in our shells, many of whom progressed through to the latter stages of their respective competitions.

Our first win of finals day came in the Double Sculls Challenge Cup, where Spanish duo Aleix Garica Pujolar and Rodrigo Conde Romero defeated the British heavyweight double by five lengths. In Spain’s first-ever win at Henley Royal Regatta, the world silver medallists sculled beautifully in tricky conditions to cement their place in the record books. “We are very happy with the race,” commented Garcia. “We had a good start, and we were very focused on the feeling within the boat. We were also aware of the conditions and careful with the wind and the moving water. We found a lot of agility and an easy-moving rhythm. Many thanks to Filippi for their continued support”

Both boats were Filippi shells in this final, with the British pairing also opting for one of our boats.

Our second victory came in the women’s equivalent event for the Stonor Challenge Trophy. Jill Moffatt & Jennifer Casson of Shawnigan Lake School, Canada defeated a British pairing who recently won the Henley Women’s Regatta by two and a half lengths. “We were delighted to race and win at Henley Royal Regatta,” said Moffat. “This race was an important part of our preparation for the World Championships in September and we’re always excited to come and compete on the famous Henley course.”

We also had a further four finalists racing for honours on the Sunday. Deerfield Academy, an independent coeducational boarding preparatory school in Deerfield, Massachusetts, were beaten in the last round of the Prince Philip Challenge Trophy for schoolgirl eights. They just lost out to a very strong boat from Greenwich Crew, USA, who had placed second at the USRowing Youth National Championships.

In the quads, both the Canadian national team and the Dutch U23 boat were racing in Filippi hulls in the Princess Grace and Prince of Wales Challenge Cups respectively. Both lost out to crews from Leander but will be focused on righting the ship ahead of senior and U23 world championships.

Filippi were delighted to support so many fantastic athletes throughout the week and will be present at Lucerne next weekend for the third and final world cup of the 2023 series.
