Springtime is upon us, and the flurry of Tideway heads that accompany the curtain call of winter are now over. The Schools’ Head of the River – one of the largest junior-only events on the UK calendar – was another fabulous day out on the championship course, with hundreds of boats taking to the water. Filippi enjoyed a successful day once again, recording three category wins and a flurry of top-three finishes.
Our first victory came in the open third eights category, as Radley College picked up the victory ahead of St Edward’s School and Eton College. Radley were also third in open championship junior 16 eights, losing out to St Paul’s School and King’s College Wimbledon.
We also won the girls’ junior 16 eight title, riding with Surbiton High School. This event also yielded a silver medal for us in the form of St Paul’s Girl’s School, who placed around 20 seconds back.
Our final win came in the girls’ school junior 16 eights, with Godolphin and Latymer securing the victory.
Elsewhere, we finished second in the girls’ school second eights with Tideway Scullers School before Marlow Rowing Club secured silver in the girls’ championship quads (behind a fast Tideway Scullers School boat). We also managed a silver in the girls’ championship junior 15 eights with Wallingford Rowing Club.
Six bronzes included the open school junior 16 second eight and girls’ school second eights (Wallingford Rowing Club), girls’ second junior 16 eights (Godolphin and Latymer) and open school third junior 15 eights (King’s College School). Our final top-three finish was via St Paul’s Girl’s School, who took bronze in the girls’ second junior 15 eight.
Elsewhere, St Paul’s School and Headington School retained their headships from 2024, and Windsor Boys School took the open quad for the first time in three years.
We look forward to supporting various crews in their journies to side-by-side racing throughout the course of the summer.
