Filippi rounded out the senior men’s winter season in fine form at the 2025 edition of the Head of the River Race, winning six pennants across various categories.
Our fastest finisher on the day were Marlow Rowing Club, who placed 17th overall and took home the Page Trophy for non-Tideway Thames crews. Marlow are continuing to build momentum in their programme after winning The Wyfold Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta last summer. This boat contained several athletes from that victorious crew, and eyes will now turn to the summer racing season.
In 18th were Commercial Rowing Club of Ireland, who will take the Overseas pennant back across the Irish sea with them. They were just over a second back on Marlow and will likely race again in the UK at the Metropolitan Regatta in late May/early June.
The Jackson Trophy, awarded to the fastest provincial club, went to Agecroft Rowing Club, who wrested the title off Royal Chester. They were 29th overall.
Westminster Boat Club took the School/Junior pennant, which will surely be excellent preparation for the Schools’ Head of the River tomorrow. They were just under two seconds clear of Abingdon School in second. They were 46th overall.
Neptune Boat Club took the Medium Club pennant and finished 94th, whilst Army Rowing Club were our last pennant winner, taking the HM Forces trophy home. They were 242nd overall.
Elsewhere, Leander Club retained their headship, seeing off the attentions of Oxford Brookes University (second) and Thames Rowing Club (third and winner of the Vernon Trophy). Cambridge University – whose women we proudly support – were winners of the Bernard Churcher Trophy, awarded to the fastest University-eligible crew. This was the provisional ‘Goldie’ line-up, demonstrating how strong the Light Blues will be in 2025.
